How do i tell my ex of two years i don't want to stay in contact anymore?

as we were together for 10 years my ex always pulls on my heart strings to continue contact. Saying we're just friends. I use his company when im bored or depressed. I think it's a vicious, selfish and unproductive rut that neither of us seems prepared to really change
