Can I go for Microsoft visual studio standard/academic version licensing?

I would suggest you downloading, or purchasing the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 it is better than 2008 and you can do lots of stuff with 2010. If you are interested using 2010 go to msdn web and download the basic one use it if you like it then purchase Professional Academic version.
