What specific modem can I buy that will work and be compatible with the Comcast cable style modem?

The Comcast Co. has been charging me 5$ a month for god knows how long for modem rental!! i just want to buy one to save some money overtime. Any suggestions and or specific links would be very helpful? I also suggest people to piggyback and invest now to save in the long run! Thank You
