Should my wife become a nurse or doctor?

My wife is 27 and would like to pursue a career as a nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist. One requires nursing school (1 year) and nurse anesthesia school 2 1/2 - 3 years) and the other requires med school (4 years and residency- 2 years typically). She's in between the two careers because of the time frame and because we plan to have kids one day, and we don't want to wait until she's 40. I want to hear from nurses who wish they were doctors and doctors who wish they were nurses…or from people who like where they are. Is it worth it to purse med school if you will be doing basically the same thing?
