Christians, how would you defend these Bible verses?

This page from the Book of Isaiah contains exilic prophecy foreseeing the downfall of Babylon and the return of the Jews to the Promised Land. What is to defend? God is promising that he will destroy the Babylonians through the Medes (at this time, the Jews had been captured by the Babylonians). This ends up coming true--the Persians overthrow Babylon and Cyrus the Great allows the Jews to return and rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem.
